After a few months coaching China’s Zheng Qinwen, coach Wim Fissette has reportedly ended the pair’s partnership in order to resume his role of full-time coach of Naomi Osaka (no official word on that yet, however).
Zheng spoke to media after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games.
The news was reported by Chinese journalist Zhang Bendou on Twitter.
“I understand his decision, but my family and I feel hurt. Right now I don’t want to talk about this person,” Zheng said, according to Zhang.

Fissette coached Osaka to her last two major titles, before parting ways with the four-time major champion in July of 2021.
Osaka, who gave birth to her first child, Shai, in July, will begin her comeback at this year’s Australian Open. She last played in Tokyo, in September of 2022.
Fissette has coached many top women during his legendary coaching career, including Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber.
“Naomi obviously was really special, still when I think about her, the way that during the most important points she was playing her best tennis. It was really special, the way she was serving out matches. She was unbelievable in that way,” Fissette said at the US Open. “I think Naomi, with her power, she was at a different level than all the other players.”
